Overview
In 2024, we organized, sponsored, and participated in events relevant to Luxembourg Dual Citizens in Brazil, Argentina, Luxembourg, and the United States. As far as our income-generating citizenship services go, we brought on 543 new clients in 2024. 117 adult clients traveled to Luxembourg to apply for citizenship, accounting for 135 applicants when including minors. 410 LuxCitizenship clients obtained their Luxembourg dual citizenship, bringing our total number to 2,024 confirmed citizens.
Major Achievements of 2024
Below, we set out some additional memorable moments we achieved as a team in 2024:
Growth & Milestones
On November 16, 2024, LuxCitizenship proudly celebrated its 8th anniversary. By year-end, our team included three dedicated staff members: Lauren Lowell, Thaiza Romano, and Karolina Danevska.

Events
LuxCitizenship hosted two successful networking events in 2024. The first event in April welcomed 55 guests, including VIPs from Luxembourg, to the Luxembourg Consulate in New York—an honor to host in a space owned by the Luxembourg State. The second event, held in October at the Dual Citizen Brewery in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, drew 105 attendees.
Sponsorships
To strengthen our presence in Luxembourg and New York’s business ecosystem, we expanded our sponsorships. In Luxembourg, we supported the Folklore de Mersch dance troupe, which includes dual citizens. In the U.S., we sponsored the Luxembourg-American Business Awards Gala ($10,000), where we invited 10 outstanding dual citizens to network with Luxembourg’s business community. Additionally, we sponsored the Luxembourg Consulate’s Christmas reception in New York ($1,000), organized by the Luxembourg American Chamber of Commerce.

Press
Throughout 2024, we connected the Luxembourgish press with clients for interviews about dual citizens in the U.S. We also sold our first video report to Luxembourg’s national broadcaster, documenting the 30th anniversary of the Luxembourg Descendents group in Rosario, Argentina, on Luxembourg’s National Day. Additionally, we launched a press page and a photo page on our website to highlight media coverage and event photos.
Public Data Insights
To expand on our research using Luxembourgish government public data sets, we launched a dedicated webpage on our website in 2024: https://www.luxcitizenship.com/government-data/

Business Network
We launched a dedicated webpage to aggregate information about businesses owned or led by Luxembourg Dual Citizens across the world. At launch, we had over 15 businesses located in 4 countries. Through our sponsorship of the Luxembourg American Business Awards gala we got a full page add in the booklet provided to all 300 guests showcasing the businesses. We plan to further expand this project in the future: https://www.luxcitizenship.com/business/
Artificial Intelligence
In the first half of 2024, we worked with Artificial Intelligence engineer Samuel Paniagua to develop a chatbot based on our internal documentation. While the project faced challenges and limited client use led to its removal, it provided valuable insights into AI’s potential applications. We aim to redeploy an improved version in 2025.

Brazil
Daniel delivered a keynote address in Portuguese, “Luxembourgers in the Americas: Opportunities for Collaboration,” to a conference of 150 dual citizens in Florianópolis, Brazil, on June 23, 2024. The speech, presented in Portuguese, highlighted years of research on Luxembourgish citizenship and its historical significance. The team also conducted two days of filming for a potential documentary project.
Cultural Events in Luxembourg
Daniel represented LuxCitizenship at a stand at the National Day of Cultural Heritage and Genealogy in Walferdange in September and was also present for the celebration of the Crown Prince becoming the Lieutenant Representative of the Grand Duke.

Election
Ahead of Luxembourg’s European elections in June 2024, we maintained our election resource page, providing up-to-date practical information. Around 300 dual citizens in Brazil and the U.S. participated in the election.
About Our Community
Learn more about LuxCitizenship’s clients, the developments in their applications, and the income-generating services our team offered in 2024.
As of December 31st, 2024, LuxCitizenship has helped 2,522 individuals on the path to Luxembourg Dual Citizenship. Of these individuals, 2,312 are Americans, 23 individuals are from other countries, and 187 people have discontinued their dual citizenship application. The rest of this report covers the 2,312 Americans who are in good standing, ie either actively applying for citizenship or who have already received it.
Of this group, 1,684 or 72.9% are adults and 628 or 27.1% are children. Further breaking it down, 1,203 or 52% are male and 1,109 or 48% are female. You can find significant details about the dual citizenship applicants in our American-Luxembourgers Study.

Although there are many ways to legally obtain Luxembourg dual citizenship, we exclusively work on the four types of citizenship procedures related to having ancestors from Luxembourg. Each procedure is based on rules in certain articles of the Luxembourgish Nationality Act of March 2017. From the start of our business until the end of 2024, 10% of our clients have been eligible under the Article 89 procedure, 64% under Article 7, 4% under Article 23, and 22% are exclusively eligible under the combination of Articles 7 and 23. This 22% is not included in the numbers for Article 7 and 23 individually.
2024 – New Applicants
543 new clients entered into contract with LuxCitizenship in 2024. This is a 74% increase from 2023 when we signed up 312 new clients. This is one less than our all time high (544) in 2022. These 543 individuals account for 23.5% of our total American clients in good standing.

Our clients tend to apply in groups. Out of 2024’s 543 new clients, there were 225 family groups, making this the year with our most ever contracts/family groups applying. This averages out to 2.5 persons per each group applying, which is also up from 2023 (2.1), but still well below previous years. We’ve seen overall a progressive decrease over the years in persons per family group applying. In 2024, our largest family group had 15 applicants while 111 individuals applied on their own, undoubtedly a record. For the 144 family groups, there were 168 Luxembourg ancestors, meaning some of our clients are relatives of each other. 168 Luxembourg ancestors is more than double the number in the last year.
For 2024’s new clients, 0% (0 people) applied under Article 89, 5% (26) were under Article 23, 36% (196) were under the Articles 7 & 23 combo, and 59% (321) applied under Article 7.
Citizenship Received
By December 31st, 2024, a total of 1,986 out of 2,312 active US clients have definitively received their Luxembourg dual citizenship. An additional 52 individuals have made a valid citizenship declaration in Luxembourg and have proof of citizenship coming imminently in early 2025. Combined, they make up 2,038 people or 88% of total LuxCitizenship clients who are, or will soon be, bona fide Luxembourg dual citizens.
2,038 dual citizens represent an increase of 424 dual citizens more than in 2023 when the number was 1,614. In total, 21% of LuxCitizenship’s clients who have dual citizenship got it in 2024.
Of the 2,038 LuxCitizenship dual citizens, we can break the figures down based on application type. 240 individuals or 12% obtained dual citizenship under Article 89, 88 or 4% under Article 23, 288 or 20% under the 7/23 combo, and 1,309 or 64% under Article 7.
New Luxembourg Citizens By Article (2016-2024)
In 2024, Article 7 corresponded to 68% of the total new citizens or 288 individuals. Our first client to receive a 2024 nationality certificate sent their application in November 2023 and the last clients to receive 2024 nationality certificates sent their applications in late November 2024. For that November 2023-2024 time period, March 2024 was the month with the most applications sent to Luxembourg.

Genealogical Research
In addition to citizenship services, we carried out 23 separate Luxembourg genealogical research projects in 2024, an increase of 10 from 2023.
10 of 23 research projects resulted in citizenship engagements, representing 43% of research projects, a decrease from past years.
Education and Outreach
Beyond our clients, many more people benefit from resources which we make publicly available online and free of charge, including via our website, social media, and through video platforms.

Eligibility Test
% ET Submissions Eligibility Result
Many visitors to our website take advantage of our free tool, the Luxembourg Dual Citizenship Eligibility Test, which studies and automatically renders a dual citizenship eligibility opinion based on someone’s family tree data. The form can provide accurate, automated feedback for 97% of submissions.
Since we created the Eligibility Test, each year we’ve had 700-750 respondents. We saw a 47% spike in demand in 2024 compared 2023. During 2024, we issued 1,103 dual citizenship eligibility opinions or about 91 per month. By far the highest month for demand was November 2024, with 188.
Of the eligibility opinions we issued, 562 (50%) were for Article 7, 286 (26%) for 7/23 (including results where only a parent or grandparent was eligible), 74 (7%) for Article 23, 88 (8%) were eligibility denials, and 51 (5%) stated that they weren’t sure if they had an ancestor and may need genealogical research support.

About LuxCitizenship
Who makes up LuxCitizenship, what is our mission, and what do we offer to the Luxembourg dual citizen community?
LuxCitizenship.com is an online platform helping people get dual citizenship, relocate and find professional opportunities in Luxembourg and across Europe.

We set out on this adventure as a mission-driven social enterprise in 2016. We specifically work with individuals who have ancestors from Luxembourg to establish eligibility and apply for dual citizenship in the Grand Duchy. We also strive to educate and keep these dual citizens informed about Luxembourg’s culture, economy, and history. Once these individuals obtain dual citizenship, we also help them assess, prepare for, and accomplish building a future in Europe.
LuxCitizenship was founded by international affairs expert and entrepreneur Daniel Atz. The company is headquartered on New York City’s famous Madison Avenue.
