Did you know that you can visit an important part of Luxembourgish history in a historical monument in Portugal? The Casa de Santa Maria in Cascais, a well known beach city outside of Lisbon, was home for a temporary time to Grand Duchess Charlotte and members of her government in exile during the early months of World War II. Grand Duchess Charlotte’s family eventually left from the port of Cascais on an American military ship to head to the United States. The mansion is now a city museum and you can visit whenever you’re passing through Portugal.
